  • Has anyone thought of decoking there engine?

Stumbled across this in Car Merchanics magazine
    https://terraclean.co.uk/about-terraclean

Long story cut short they connect there machine to ur fuel lines cutting off supply of fuel and uses its own special mix of fuel and cleaning agents and as it flows through the system it decokes the engine and also does the exhaust side too, apparently very handy for diesel engines

I may give it a go
    Yes it's a V8, don't you know I'm loco?

cheap way, 2 stoke oil in the diesel fuel.
for intakes water/meth injection works well but i understand there is a few products now that you can spray down the intake.

yes i've also heard of products you spray into the intake, this seems a more intense cleaning process

good method I have used is stick a couple of lts of transmission fluid in a fullish tank of derv, it works well (did for me anyway) it's an aggressive cleaner, even old ATF I filter and add to the tank,
on old engines like these though there's only one way to clean the intake side of it, which is to take the inlet manifold off and wash it out with petrol or thinners, mine was chocha with black oily shite, after that you can add redex into the intake to keep it more or less gunk free
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

My 3rd gen was Terracleaned before I bought it.
Runs well, not awful fuel economy. I didn't know what it was like beforehand but it seems ok to me.

That's good to hear from someone who's had it done, it's quite cheap also my local place quoted £140

There is a lot of chat on the internet about Terraclean and as to whether it ruins engines or not. I don't really deal in yes but what ifs.
All I know is that it was done by the previous owner as part of his 'doing up to sell' regime, and the thing runs fine as far as I know.
Lots of around town driving and 300 mile motorway round trips at 80 - 90.
Before anyone asks, I don't look at the mpg. If I was worried about that, I'd drive a smart car or something equally as daft.

I've had the bg systems clean done on my 06 plate l200 . I did notice a slight difference but not a "wow" difference .
If I'd paid for it (I didn't as the garage owner did it free As he owed me a favour ) I would have been disappointed at the cost .

thats a fair comment, i quite like the idea of the engine being decoked (even a little bit) some has to be better than none right

I decoked the intake manifold on my 3rd gen when I did the head replacement, it was full of shite! This is mostly from the effects of the egr valve which is now long gone! I reckon it was 20% blocked with crap, it made no real difference to performance though as a surf engine in normal use doesn't need too much intake cross sectional area anyway.... it just nice to get the crap out.
My wife Zafira though? Well that was about 50% blocked, again caused by the egr valve dumping crap back into the engine and shit tesco diesel. I couldn't be bothered with cleaning that though.
Personally I wouldn't want to wash years of crap around the insides of my engine with a terror wash or whatever, it only need a bit of hard shite to get stuck behind a piston ring and you are fooked!

i used a can of Mr muscle oven cleaner,on my throttle body, (1uz-fe)
2 on the upper plenum, and 3 on the lower. engine had about 160,000 miles on it. i was surprised just how thick the deposits were.considering its an easy job, only needing a few gaskets and some time,i would recommend it. im doing another upper and lower plenum for a friend at the moment, older car, similar mileage, and just about the same amount of depositing in it.
