Buying a Surf with a private late...

Hi all, quick question.

I'm hopefully buying a Surf on Monday, but it has a private plate that the owner wants to keep.

In your experience, is it a simple process of him sending the V5 and Reg retaining paperwork off at the same time, then I receive the new V5 with its old/new reg number?

I'm assuming the DVLA will sort the vehicle tax out at the same time.. I'm going to give them a call on Monday to double check!

Btw, I've mentioned the issue with my insurance company who tell me they won't charge me £50 for 30 seconds worth of paperwork!

The current owner can do it online, private plate off, original age related plate on, all in the same day, instantly, but not on a sunday, service available mon to sat
