I know this is a silly question but......what's the main differences in spec between the ssr-x and the ssr-g? Have ordered my new toy, 1993 ssr-x 3.0lt, should be here in about 6weeks! was just wonderin....
I think the main difference is that the SSR-G spec cars have a 'Recaro' interior - nice sporty seats.
In terms of toys, I have no idea, but as the Japanese like to load them up even the 'lower' spec cars tend to have a lot of stuff picked from the options list.

The first thing to realise is that theres a big difference between the options any spec should have any that which it actually has.
Recaro's were on option, not sandard on the SSR-G,
The G should in theory have a rear wheel carrier, and rear spoiler amongst other things which the X should not have.
In theory it runs from the base spec SSR to the SSR-G or Gold spec model. In practice these designations do not necessarily mean much. Many will have had a number of factory fitted options supplied from new, with the result that it would not be impossible to find for example an SSR-V with a higher level of options/trim than an SSR-X, or an SSR-X in seemingly identical spec to an SSR-G.
If looking at a Surf with a view to purchase, consider the actual condition and options fitted to the vehicle rather than being unduly swayed by the desire to attain any particular model level.

That's basically what I was trying to say, just phrased much better.
I didn't realise that about the Recaros and the SSR-G, I had thought that it was standard. Oh well, you live and learn.
Personally I think the standard seats are better than Recaro. When I was looking for a surf I noticed that most Recaro seats had severe wear on the drivers side from sliding in over it. If this happens with the Japs, what will our lardy western behinds do to the fabric?
Recaro seats are fine for sporty low models where you drop into them but not designrd to take weight on the hard edge of the bucket.
PS I don't like the fishnet headrests either and are almost impossible to get waterproof covers that fit well for, whereas cheapo Argos waterproof covers fit the standard OK
