  • Head Bolts

I would appreciate a bit of advice regarding the head bolts. I was tightening the head bolts to the recommended sequence and was on the last stage of tightening (180 degs from 40 nm) when I was distracted and forgot where I was. Lesson learnt I know I should of marked them, but I forgot where I was when I returned. I decided to back them off and started again. I have now tightened them up but have I nagging doubts about compromising the strength of the bolts. Would this be an issue?
    Thanks

    No problem at all!!!!
The work shop manual gives a tolerance for the bolts! As long as they are not thinner than x they can be reused quite happily.
I re-used the head bolts when I replaced the head 2 years ago mainly because I'm tight.

    Regards

Thanks for your response Mark. I ordered another set of AMC head bolts just for peace of mind, they are only £18.00 from a renowned supplier. All fitted and torqued down now. I checked the ones I replaced and there was no difference in length or diameter. The original ones That came off with the cracked head were 0.3mm longer, or .010" in old money.
