Hi all, I have just installed a new radio in the Surf and I can now agree with all those of you who advised that I should have binned the Jap fitted one and bought a UK one straight away. Radio two wears a bit thin after a while, any way have now fitted a UK spec double din Sony with remote control and it's brill. The whole package came to £150. It only took approx 25 mins to fit, definately plug n play and I love the extra control thats mounted on the steering column it really looks as it was factory fitted.. What do you think?

On the Surf anyway with it fitted in you can't get it out without removing the dashboard which is a pretty serious deterent to the non serious thief. It doesn't come out with the normal slide release tools that most single din players do these days. The whole thing is bolted in.
You can still get the remotes from Sony direct or from a decent stereo shop. Plus it's compatible with all the current Sony car amps and also non optical CD stackers.

I have eventualy got around to fittind the sony xplod unit that has sat in the garage for the last eight months. As it is a single din unit I fit the radio at the top of the space, moved the tray with the door up and fitted one of the halfrauds space bucket thingys in the bottom space, but fitted an extra 3 cigar lighter sockets in to run - phone charger, headset charger, satnav, inverter and/or 12v kettle.
Now far less unpluging to charge things and they stay live when the engine is off, so headset always ready for use and satnav is quicker to find location.
FishIf it smells like fish, eat it!
