  • Fiat woes

    I know I know
    I should know better.
Ok bought my daughter her first car, nothing flash just an old car so she can learn to drive now she has passed her test.Fiat Seicento

The main thrust was to stop the Mum and Dad taxi service.........
So it broke down a few weeks ago.

No clutch pedal towed home by the Surf.
This was the clutch relay rod, I engineered a solution and it lives or rather lived.

Last week it broke down again....
This time the RAC man towed it home.
The engine was solid would not turn over.
Clumps the starter motor with GBH no joy
Timing cover off which btw is coolant tank off front wheel off wheel liner etc etc
Freed off the motor by turning the engine backwards.
    Heard the starter motor clunk.
Tried it again and the starter motor stuck again, but it was accompanied by a pulsing on the clutch pedal.

Well you lot what is your collective opinion?
    TIA

Clutch thrust bearing release arm fell apart perhaps?
Before the relay rod broke was there vibration on the clutch pedal?

      Thank you for your reply.

Yes there was vibration through the clutch pedal.
After I had freed off the starter motor I tried starting it and there was a weird pulsing on the clutch pedal.

I guess the first action is to pull out the starter motor and have a look at that to see if there is a reason for it sticking.

Then I guess I am going to have to pull the gearbox to check the clutch/ release bearing / arm ???

Clutch release bearing or clutch arm broken/bent. Done and seen a few do this. The release rod fell out because the bearing had been able to move forward to far. Gearbox out job. I have re welded arms before to strengthen them. Can be caused by a worn clutch making the arm stress to much.

            Many thanks for the replies
I was hoping there was some better news but I kinda figured it was going to be expensive or awkward or a bit of both.
            Clutch kit is about £50
            Starter motor same about £50
            Clutch arm £30

Set of small(er) axle stands £30

            and factor in the chiropractor
            So best part of £200
Then if I find the CV joints need replacing........

So I think it is RIP Fiat.
            Scap or break

So any horror stories with a Toyota Yaris 1.0 VVT-i ?

            TIA

Not sure about the Yaris but friends with a 2010 Toyota Aygo have just had a similar problem to your Fiat. Bit dropped off gear selectors into gearbox and locked the thing solid.
Apparently the Toyota dealer said that it was a known issue. Not sure if the Yaris has the same gearbox.

PS: My wife ran a Seicento for about 8 years without any problems at all. We only ever changed fluids and filters.
