  • First generation bumpers.

This is my first post on this site- although I’ve used it regularly to source information- it’s been very, very helpful. Most answers I’ve been able to find, but I’ve drawn a blank so far.
I’ve owned my 1992 Surf for over 10 years now and it’s run faultlessly. The only thing that’s let it down is the chrome bumpers! I’ve replaced the front and rear ones for “pattern” bumpers, but they rusted out in a very short time!
I’ve got plans to fit an un-painted front bumper and paint it with many coats of 2-pack paint, in the hope that it will last longer. I’ve not seen any un-chromed rear quarter bumpers that I can paint. I don’t want to go to the expense of etching, then painting over chrome. I’ve seen some plain- painted ones from a second generation Surf, does anyone know if these will fit?

    Thanks, Ian.

I don't think they do fit, I also though that 1st Gen surfs were discontinued in 1989. 1992 would make it a second gen surf. But I might be thinking of a 4runner.The 1st generation surf had plastic rear quarter bumpers.

      Ln130 2.4

      It’s an LN130 2.4, so I assumed that it’s a first generation Surf.
      Thanks, Ian

          Talking of bumpers...

I just wrote you a message Surfenstein, but it bounced back cos your inbox is full! Here it is...

          Hi Mark, How's tricks?

I seem to remember you mentioned having a rear bumper to match mine... An oaf of a mate reversed into it it today and made quite a big bump on top of an existing smaller one! Wondered about taking yours off you? Let me know how much you want, what condition it is etc.

What about rear arches?! Got those too by any chance?

I'll pop over one weekend soon to say 'Allo.

          All the best mate,
          Stu

              I’ve been misled?

I’ve been misled by Roughtrax then! http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/hilux-surf
It’s definitely the LN130- as stated on the chassis.

              Thanks.

                  Second generation!

Yes- it looks like the second one! So- I’ll have to re-phrase my question. How easily can I source a set of second generation rear quarter bumpers- that I can paint? Or, if need be, do the third generation rear quarter bumpers fit?
                  Thanks.

There are lots of breakers out there, find one with a blown head or a front end smash. The painted bumpers tend not to rust like the chrome ones do.I don't think the 3rd gen bumpers fit.
