  • drumming noise

    Helpful suggestions please.

I have a weird drumming noise which occurs from 50 to 55 mph.

It is quite hard to describe it seems to be more from the front of the vehicle it is not accompanied by any mechanical vibration if i accelarate up the affected speed then throtttle off the noise does not change , only when the speed drops out of the affected range. It is not so much the volume but it is very intrusive and feels more like pressure than noise.

The truck is lifted body and sus.
It has toyo window wind deflectors.
The front valance has been trimmed as per the pics
The number plate is now in place.

    Stumped ?

What tyres are you running on?

I had a lot of noise like that, changed the tyres and hey presto, it disappeared.

When the biblical rain stops I might get a chance to check the arch liners.

          Tyres are 31"BFG's

Bronz bushes? I will see if I can record the noise.......

You don't suppose it's turbulence from cutting the bumper away drumming on the bash plate?

I will have a look at the bumper area as the paint is still new it should show signs of any rubbing caused if that is the cause of the noise.

I dont think it is the type of noise caused by tyres but I could be wrong.

I know it is very difficult to describe some noise, but at another stab at it, if you could imagine being in front of some mahoosive bass bins and there is a very deep reverb causing the speakers to oscilate, although you can hear the noise it is the pressure that is felt more.

I will see if my ipod can catch it.

"sun" roofs too..vibrates the roof panel (much like it might be the bash plate panel)...

turbulent air from high pressure air, transitioning to a low pressure area or past a sharp return, form vortexes that that interact with each other like those behind a truck, and alternate pushing on a given object or panel (you can really feel it on a bike behind a truck for example).

I was thinking that. If a rear window is slightly open in any car I'm in, I get a really deep resounding thumping sound that isn't mechanical or related to anything other than air pressure in the cabin. Close the window and it's gone.

When the bronze bushes wear on the front hubs the hub makes a noise a bit like a hammer drill. Grab hold of each drive shaft where it enters the hub ( outer cv joint) and give them a good wiggle, anymore than a couple of mm of play then it could be the bushes are worn.

I will give them a look at Mark
If I am destined to do the bushes
                              ?
                              Will the bushes drift out?
Is it worth changing the wheel bearings
and the top and bottom ball joints
                              and refurb the front calipers?

And for your listening pleasure may I present the recent recording of the noise.
For best results you will need to 1, crank up the bass or 2, put a pair of headphones on
                              in particular listen to
                              23 - 45 secs
                              50 -1.00
                              1.08 - 1.40
                              1.45 -2.00
                              2.00- 2.35
It is the bits when your ears start buzzing........
