  • Newbie Dunmurry Northern Ireland

Hi All, thought I should introduce myself, as the new owner of a 1993 Gen 2 3.0TD. It was locked away in a barn for a couple of years, and is now enjoying the road again. This is my first proper truck so to speak, so I hope you can put up with my questions as I bring her back to rude health! So, I look forward to your valuable info, and hopefully I'll see some members out on the road this year. I will add some pics as soon as I can!

    Regards, Craig.

      Hello and Welcome.

Not too many people on here from NI.

If I can be of any help let me know.

Where did you buy your truck? They are pretty rare over here.

      Geoff

Well there you go, we could all meet up for a 'hilux cruise' sometime

Two surf's... Nice. Like the sound of the wine interior.

              Hi guys,
Thanks for the warm welcome! Glad to see there's afew others nearby. I got mine last week in Ballyclare, had been in a shed for a couple of years, brought out and mot passed first time. Only 90k on the clock!Needs a few recommissioning jobs such as new bumpers, but first interesting issue....... Unseasonably nice day today, turned on air on whilst idling, no worries, pull away and screeches like a stuck cat... Noise rises with acceleration, and the odd time will disappear for a short while....... What have I got myself into!?

That just sounds like a loose air con belt. Just give it a tighten and see if that helps. Not like we use air con much over here! Search for roughtrax, they do a lot of parts and a lot of people use them on here. They have bumpers. If you do get new ones a coat of por15 will make them last longer.

Cheers Jazzy, I'll look into the bumpers with those guys..... as regards the aircon belt, this may sound stupid, but where is it, and how do you tighten it? I was brought up building downhill mountain bikes, so this engine malarkey has to be treated with some trepidation!.........

                  Cheers,

                  Craig

Used to do a bit if downhill myself, tho got an all mountain bike now so for once I can cycle up the hills as well. What rig you got? I have an intense 6.6 and a sintesi bazooka 4.

As for the air con belt. . ..
I am looking at my engine right now (still trying to get fuel pump out)
Find the pully at the top right and front as you look at it. Its got two silver pipes sticking outta the top of it. Just to the right of that pully facing upwards is a bolt head on a long screw down to another pulley. Give that a wee turn clockwise and see if that helps. The belt could be shot tho. New ones are under a fiver anyway.

You should be thinking about doing the timing belt soon as well. Especially if there is no history with the car.

Thanks, I'll give the belt a go when I get the weekend over me! I've gone a bit retro on the mountainbikes now, running a restored 96 klein attitude nightstorm and a 93 kona lava dome. The modern is an.all rigid on one inbred single speed. seems like I'm a candidate for a mid life crisis, going all retro on the motor and the bikes!

                            Welcome.

                            '96 is not retro

As others have said, do all the belts and the cam belt/tensioner, could save you an engine.

I remember back in the day my mate had a lava dome.
I always wanted a Klein mantra, they were a food design.
I had a sporty saracen havoc mk1 that I used to race downhill on.
It had RST high 5's on the front. And I thought I was the dogs ballacks.
Laughable now when you think about it!

And as Andy said replace tensioner and pulley as well. Its only a half hour job.
