  • 4wd problem

    Hi guys... n girls,
Hopefully someone can point me to my problem before I go under and have a look at what I've FUBARed
I have an Auto Gen 2 3.0, I recently put it into 4wd drive whilst doing 10mph on the straight and immediately heard a grating noise, stopped, pulled off again and its pulling to the right with a slight grating sound, stopped and disengaged. I assume you cant do this with an auto? Oops!
I've always stopped to engage and never turned on the dry.

I put mine in and out of 4 wheel drive while moving so I don't think that's your problem.

I don't know what your trouble is but I don't think it's putting it in 4 wheel drive when moving.

Sorry I can't help more than that.

I've just got round to checking this problem and have found that the nearside wheel does'nt engage, both hoses work on vacuum so is the actuator the problem or a locking collar inside the shaft of some kind.
            Cheers Baz

check this out for taking the actuator doh dah off (it's a mod thread really, but you'll get the idea).

Well I took the actuator off and watched it with the vacs on and everything moves ok so I thought stuff it I'm going to do the stated mod but when I took it for a run in 4wd it does the same thing, it pulls right and feels like its binding/grating possibly from the offside wheel. Is this a wound up diff?

your thinking of the transfer box re winding up...sounds like you'll be taking the hub to bits...did you already check the drive shafts over?

Yeah, drive shafts seem to be working and locking as they should, as you say I'll have to look at the hubs.
                    Thanks for your help
