      Obviously..a Surf is better.......

Seriously its horses for courses.....Something like a Defender 90 or even god forbid suzukis have a shorter wheelbase [less overhang] and hence better approach/exit angles than the surf and older models have less gizmos etc....more barren and you dont bother to get it full of water/mud in the cabin although some of the guys and gals on here are trying their best with the Surf.

Each vehicle has its benefits and weaknesses and each person will have their own viewpoints...this is my first 4x4 and I like the comfort, the different look and feel and so on......

Others will have their 2penny worth

Off road......No. Lets not kid ourselves on here. as good as the Surf is, the defender 90 is right at the top of the tree.
the only thing is if you can keep up long enough it will probably break down.

Depends on tyres, a Surf with Mud Terrains with handle things better than a Defender on road tyres, but a surf can't get near the suspension flex of any coil sprung Land Rover, so big holes and axle twisters will catch you out.

A good driver in either car will out-wheel a throttle jockey the other any day.

Don't worry about who's is best, just enjoy driving it.
