Hi all,
Just joined the forum and thought I had better introduce myself.
My name is Andy I bought my 1996 Surf a few weeks ago and love it to bits, what fantastic piece of kit, takes a bit of starting when cold but runs perfect once it fires up, body work in realy nice condition just rust as usual on the bumpers which I plan to fit new soon, just feels like it will never let you down unlike the crap Range Rover I have just got shut of!!!!

Hello and welcome, If it takes a bit of cold starting, turn the key watch the glow plug light come on, wait 15 secs or so till you a hear a wee click then try to fire it. If its still sluggish, think about fitting new glo plugs.

Hi Andy,

I'm from Halifax and if your having trouble starting when cold you might want to replace your glow plugs.

Can easily be changed in a hour and makes a big difference.

Hi guys,
Thank you for the posts, glad to see i have a few fellow surfers near by, i have changed diesel filter and it seems to start better now with just two lots of glowplug on start up.
So fingers crossed it might be ok, what a truck i just love it and how it looks, i think it has has a lift at some point as
It looks higher than a standard one.

Well me and my big mouth lol went out this morning and she wouldn't start again, I have now put 2 sets of new glowplugs in checked they are getting voltage and all seems well with them, so I don't think it is the glowplugs, do you know a good garage that knows about these and could fix it for me?

Offer tea & biscuits sure someone local will rush to help.

Not many garages want to or have knowledge to repair our Surfs.

Lots of stories on here ref garage cock ups. Causing expensive rectification.
