Picked up my 1st surf today. definitely feels lighter all round compared to the rangie, so will be just trying 2WD at first without ECT, then ECT, then 4WD without and then with, until I found out just what she can do. One good thing 0-60 is definitely better in the Surf then the rangie, no more going around roundabouts on two wheels and the surf comes out of bends much more smoothly.
I have lost the rear end twice in the wet now on the same concrete road but the surf is easily controlled.

HMMM as I have lifted the rear end I find that it is easy to "lose" the rear in the wet or dry (over enthusiasm of go pedal )
I do use my 4wd in the wet or dry as my 4runner manual recommends the lubrication of the propshafts should be done one a month for approx 10 miles
If I do it it tends to be heading down the M6 towards work so I'm constantly going in a straight line.
If you use it in the dry and try to do sharp turns you will bu**er it!!
As for the underpants forget 'em, just find a big carpark when it rains and do some donuts to get the "feel" of itNO WORRIES!

slippy slidey
i had bridgestone duellers on mine when i bought it (not the best!) and it was easy to slide the a*se out even on a damp surface, i was also worried how it would stop in a straight line if you had to, so i bottled out and put road tires on, general xp 2000's, corners like a good'un now.

Slipy Slidey
My V6 4Runner does it almost every time I negotiate a particular rounabout in Newport when it's wet. It happens to be on my way home from work. It certainly wakes me up. I'm on Marshall Power 70 road tyres. However there is a lot of torque produced even by the petrol engined version.Cheers Ian

Hehehe,
Sorry to be chuckling but I knew when it started raining this morning that this thread would appear. Then I remembered that the wife was using my Surf today - panic!
She did the same.
2 Ton truck, rear wheel drive, drives like a car then in the wet it reminds you it aint!

It did not take me long to work out that I could "drift" the back end when cornering in the wet. I love the feeling and the Grey Ghost is very forgiving if its done properly.
I have got 31" Falken RV ATs that have the grip of teflon in the wet so its great fun.
Keep in mind that we have a 14 ton fire pump that is drum braked and leaf sprung all round and some of us can get that to drift the rear on corners in the wet. Now THAT needs replacement skiddersSimon.O.
