Tyre size question

I have a 1990, narrow body , 2.4 with 215/75/15 tyres. Can i fit 235/75/15? I bumped a curb a few years ago [travelling slowly on ice] and a rear tyre came off the rim. Just wondering if the 235 would be worse under similar winter conditions. Would like a wider tyre as it hopefully give a little more stability /grip?

They should fit OK, but see if any are advertised with rim protection.

Like Andy said the tyres will fit ok they are only 20mm wider.
