i contacted the seller, and while these do NOT fit a surf or 4 runner, they do make to order, in the same style as these, ones that will fit up to 1996, for £229.

wish i'd known that ! i got another set recently to repair the one's ive got on now.
i do actually,like the idea and practicality of running boards,especially for cleaning and helping the wife get in (5ft and a wet tea-bag), but the surf ones are not that aesthetically pleasing.

would prefer something like i have on the Honda.

well, i've gone ahead and bought some of these. made here by a small engineering and design company,and as a fellow engineer ,im all for supporting the trade. sounds all good,powder coated frames,left to cure and harden,no nasty mild steel fixings to rust like the captive nuts on the honda ones.
why they put them in s/steel tubes and used them to attach the ali chequer plate,i dont know!
maybe so it gives me something to do every winter
