  • 3.0 SSRX auto hot with caravan on back

Been towing a big twin axle caravan and the temp gauge shot up into the red on any hill, now after reading posts on here have fitted an auto transmission oil cooler I between the auto box and radiator and symptoms have gone no matter how steep or how long the hill. Was easily fitted in well under an hour. Definitely worth thinking about if you tow.

I had the same with my old 3.0 surf, so when I bought a new surf it was the first thing I fitted. Was a poor design from Toyota in my opinion.
    If I like it, Bushwhacker doesn't. :-)

done that too and it worked great, even i did the electric fan with a switch to turn it on when i wanted to work, to help out on slow up hills

Funnily enough i was thinking about this this morning, is there a particular mod people are doing or everyone just picking their own cooler and location?

I believe it is best to turn OVERDRIVE OFF when towing up and down hills as it stops the auto box working too hard.

The problem is, when you are dragging a tin snail or some other load up a hill you will typically be below 55 and out of lock up and therefore making your ATF hot and transmitting some of that heat to the jacket cooling water.

I just picked one off eBay, and went trans-cooler-rad-trans. That way in winter the radiator sends the fluid back at normal temp so it's not overcooled.
