MOT failure. no vin number?!

So took the truck for its first MOT since owning it yesterday. Apart from failing due to some welding work needing to be done, the tester (halfords)couldn't find the VIN number. Am I right in saying these are normally engraved onto a small metal plate somewhere in the engine bay? How would I go about getting a replacement for this!? Or should it be somewhere completely different?

Yep, it should be on a metal plate attached to the bulkhead.

It's also stamped on the chassis leg on the driver's side underneath the torsion bar bracket.
