  • Grease Guns

I've had the Surf a couple of months now and I've not been down under yet. So I was just wundering if there might be a particular make/model/type of grease gun that you would recommend for all those greasing points. (I was going to put nipples put it would be inevitable that there would be some comments

    Cheers

Whatever you get make sure it ain't a cheapy. I made that mistake and ended up with more grease out on the floor
Our fleet mechanics do it for me now but they've got an over head/on a reel/all singing all dancing system.
    Machine Mart do some though

the one hanging on the wall in the workshop... it's got a pipe and makes an air noise but i haven't got a clue where the grease comes from... same place as the oil i guess... hmmmm.... maybe there's a hidden back room?

Any type will do just not the cheapest and try to get one with a long rubber hose it makes for an easier time when trying to get in those tight spots.
Greasing those nipples is very theroputic......

You need a thin fitting to get into the UJ's nipples. Unless you have suspension lift which opens the UJ up nicely!

when you come to do the rear prop shaft jack one rear wheel just off the ground and if the grease nipples are not in the right position just spin the wheel with your foot till they are. saves moving the car 20 times to get the nipples in the right place to get the gun on.

needless to say, it has to be in neutral, and the handbrake off, so chock the wheels

One more thing, when you get to grease the extension part of the propshaft dont keep pumping till it comes out of the splined joints like you would on the UJ's bearings, just give it one or two pumps, there's a good thread on this somewhere about a thump from the rear end after hard braking (sorry its late and i'm knackered) trust me

                Thanx guys

I NEVER buy cheap tools - its alway a false economy.

Kio - when you say thin one I assume that you mean the head peice that fitts over the nipple?

not nessecelery... buy a good set and a cheap set.... when you need to whack your socket with a hammer, use the cheap one cos you can replace it for a quid. and when women need a screwdriver, give them the "100 for £5" set and they're happy!... when they can't undo it, use your good one and say it was easy!... also hady for opening paint tins and as chisels.
