  • 3rd Gen, Intercooler.

    Long time no see.

Well, been without a truck for almost a month. The 80 series Cruiser has gone back to the previous owner and stuck with the ££'s burning a hole in my pocket.

Now, had a 2nd and 3rd gen so looking for something different. Perhaps a nice wee 3rd gen, intercooled version.

Now I'm looking for some info.

What bhp has the the intercooled version have in comparison to the standard version? I've to pull a 5 berth caravan for my holidays.
Not that it's all about mpg, what would I expect compared to the 22mpg I was getting on a run in the LC.
Finally, was it 1998 onwards they has a small internal facelift with different dash and digi heater controls ?

    Thanks in advance

Intercoolers are so last year mate, you need a blue over silver 3rd gen thats been looked after & serviced by someone who knows about surf & is willing to do a good deal on one.

If i hear of any for sale i'll let you know ASAP.
If its not broke don't fix it.

        HAHA.

Anyway back to the question in hand.

It was 1998 with the face lift dash, not sure with the intercooler how much BHP but it will be noticeable & im sure you get nearer 30 mpg. Vince will be along soon to give you the low down but if i were buying another one an intercooler would be top of the list along with the SSRG badge so you get all the extra's.

He clearly does not know me, you would need to be borderline clinically psychotic to pay 5k for a 16yr old truck.

Its worth £3500-£3700, you never get your money back on the extras you put on.

So general thought is it's well over priced for what it is. Shows i've been out the scene for a while.!!!!

I paid 5k for my first surf over 7 years ago & it was mint with similar milage.

People get too hung up on the age thing. Any vehicle is worth what someone will pay for it. I think we all agree that the ebay one is on the pricey side, but provided its in great nick needs nothing and youre in for the long haul why not.
People will pay twice and 3 times that and more for newer vehicles, get shot after a year or 2 and be thousands down. Its not just about purchase price, Its about potential ownership costs,
Im in the 7th year of ownership of my current Surf. I thought it was a bit of a bargain when I bought it, but even If Id paid twice the price that I did ( which would probably have been looked on as madness) Id have no cause for complaint now as my annual cost of ownership would still be low.

                              Agree.

Age is not significant when it is overruled by overall condition and mileage. Is that not why imports are so popular?

                              The search continues.

Was going to see a 'less costly' Prado but due to work can't get away.
