                  Checking this out tomorrow:

I just hope that is is all it has been sold as... Old Man Emu suspension lift, 33s on the back, 31s on the front, bumper and winch etc...

I think that I woudl give her a small lift 2" probably and most likely 33s all round.. maybe even 35s.. but I don't know how practicak that is in the real world.

Keep your fingers crossed peeps.. I want as much Surfy love flowing my way tomorrow please

                    Good luck with the viewing.
Have a good look around and make sure all the buttons work and the 4wd engages on the button.
History especially documented is worth looking for.
Personally I would be looking at coolant expansion tank and the coolant system in general to see if there is anything suspicious, the 3.0's seem to be starting to have head issues now too.
There are plenty out there, maybe not with the winch and bumper like pictured but if the head is gone its still gonna eat up best part of 1k
But I'm just a grumbling old git.
Don't understand the tire sizes though ?
Hmmm axle wind up if used in 4wd ?

I would look for another one if I were you.
The owner obviously doesn't know about the Surfs 4wd system.

don't run it in 4 wheel drive with different tyre sizes front and back.

Be careful when looking in case someone else has.

You know sometimes the direct approach is right.
And sometimes being blunt is what is required.
Forget that the Surf is actually in effect 4x3 until the ADD is engaged.
At that point it becomes 4x4.

Do as Vince says keep you money in your pocket and find one that hasn't been molested.

                            Well...

I am now worried.. I actually paid for the car today.. i paid £1500 for the truck, a wired in CB radio and 7 spare wheels (4 with road tyres and 3 with off road tyres new spare 31 on the boot too) and i did a bit of research on the old man emu suspension and TJM winch bumper and winch etc and thought that worst case scenario I could get a fair chunk of my cash back by breaking her if necessary.

I took it out for a spin and she was smooth as silk.. everything seemed to work just fine.. electrics, door fobs, air con etc etc. 4WD engaged fine (i only went back and forth a tiny bit in a straight line though) The guy did say that his son had been off roading on Salisbury plains a few times and that the only time the 4WD had been engaged was when off road.

She started on the button, no smoke or anything.. no knocks or rattles.. the steering seemed precise and no noise on full lock or anything. The gearbox was super smooth, no jerky gear changes or holding too long before changing up or down. Looking underneath she was pretty clean.. certainly no crumbly rusty bits on her.. there was a touch of rust on the bottom of the drivers door but none on the sills or door jams or cross members or axles etc.

I am committed now I guess.. how can i tell if there has been any axle wind damage caused by running different sized tyres?

                            Thanks for your help

Stick the same size on each corner and go have fun. At 1500 what's to worry about.
