  • Anyone know of a radiator fan switch type thing that operates ~5 degrees C ?

I'm looking for a coolant temperature switch that switches off at around 5 degrees C and above.

Have been searching but found nothing so far.

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks,
    Rob.

Hoho My mistake Switches OFF at 5 degrees or above might be a better option...

          Thanks,

Just acquired a heater for the demister loop off a renault master van - it has 4 glow plugs in it and heats up the coolant fast so the windscreen demists quicker.

Had a search and it looks like it operates when the coolant is below 5 degrees C. (I think the original fitment is ecu controlled to use either 2 plugs or all 4 depending on temp)

So I already have a split charge relay to detect when the engine is running, just need to let it control another relay that is on when the coolant is below 5 degrees.

I'll also use it to control my heated washer jets via a timer relay.

              Rob.

If you want to go technical you could have a look at that digital controller from the eBay link, or you could try one of the small circuit board style thermostats.
                Sounds quite an interesting project.

Post some pictures up I for one would be interested in seeing how you carry this out.

TBH I was hoping to go as 'un technical' as possible, hence the coolant switch question.

Here's a pic of the heater - I thought it may interest the veg oil chaps too.

Ok then if you want quick and dirty get yo self down to you local domestic white good spares shop and explain what temperature you want to turn on at and they should be able to find something suitable.
I have vague very vague recollection of a clip on pipe stat with a 5' set point. But it was ages ago......
I assume that you have it connected to become "live" when you are away from the truck?
If so do you think that you will need a over temp stat also?

Just took a punt on one of these.

No it's not for pre-heating just to accelerate the heat up on start up. I looked at proper pre heaters from canada a while back but they only list for the 2.4 and 120V.
