Answers on a post cards please

i left my surf sat for 4 years (yes i know)
i put 2 very crap batterys on her and she went like this


that was last year
its been about 6 months since she was turned over
i picked up 2 batterys that are too big for the surf
but i only needed to get her started to move her to some where else
but this keeps happening

i tryed untill the batterys started to pack up at witch piont i made the above video so i could ask on here if any of you grown ups know owt or nowt

It's probably just fuel starvation after being left for so long.
Get someone to pump the primer on top of the fuel filter as you crank the engine over. Stop pumping once the engine has started or the primer has gone hard.

i did try primeing it not while it was getting turned over has i was on mi own

but
when i was primeing it
the primer dint feel right to me
i mean it never went hard (i hear the wife giggle)

i pumped for around 10 mins it should have gone hard by then?

i do hope its just fuel i realy do
my battery charger has packed in too just at the right time has these things do
well my dad bought it for his first mini when he was 18 years old
so no wonder its packed up

if you think its fuel vince then that good enough for me
iam going to get the big charger out from the yard

Sounds like you need a new primer.
It should get hard after ten or so pumps, even if the fuel has drained back to the tank. If the primer's diaphragm is perished, air will be get into the fuel pipes causing rough starting/running, plus the fuel will drain all the way back to the tank when left for a few hours.
Re-new the filter at the same time as sediment in the tank will have been sucked up due the the truck sat still for a few years.

Dear mr Judwak, if your truck is going to be stood for a couple more years you could drop it off at my gaff in cunny. I'll keep it running for you but you would have to tax, insure and fuel it though

also fuel could have drained out of pump/injectors. more than likely you will need to loosen the fuel pipe off one or two injectors (loosen not undo) to bleed the air out. once fuel comes out tighten them back up.
also crank it with throttle on full.

well the batterys are on charge now been and got the big charger from the yard (tiz my dads charger)
all i need now is a new primer pump among other bits

i will try this too i never touch the throttle when starting anything?

diesel in the tank is new but the diesel in the lines and filters will be 5 years old if there was any not thought of that
i did not think it mattered

well today i took the old primer pump off to start the job
iam awaiting new parts
so i thought while i have a spare few hours i would have a look around the hilux
took off the primer and filter
then took the filter off the primer head
and this is what i found


i also tryed the primer head by blocking where the filter gose into and the primer held its presure went solid
so my question is
is there more places i should look? after finding that sort of crap in a filter?

and is it likely that a dirty filter has bad has that one is can give me the problems i have been having?

and is it worth trying the old primer head with a clean new filter?
after all filters are cheap

Has it been particularly cold out your way?
That looks like wax from diesel getting to cold, or with no additives (normally added to diesel sometime around October).

If it is wax it'll block that filter no bother at all...and be all over your fuel system....

Its a BP Australia document so reverse the seasons!

You might want to think about taking a tip from the veg oil mob and add a heat exchanger to the fuel feed before the filter, if a new filter gets you running warming the fuel before the filter should stop it blocking again and allow the dissolved wax to be consumed....

good point dude
that diesel in the filter was put in last summer
the stuff i used the other day was winter diesel

need to do more checking
iam off out side to look at a few things while iam awaiting parts to come

i'll take pics of owt i find
i would load them up with the laptop from out side but windows 8 is strange too strange
so it could be hours before i come back into the house to repost
