  • doing my head in

after 6 months of sadly looking at my surf with its cracked head getting mouldy in the garden ive managed to find a head (amc to boot ) has only done about 250 miles the big end went so owner scrapped the surf so now i need to swap heads roughly how long would it take a good mechanic re costs for labour id try myself but worried about setting the timing belt

Cheaper to do it yourself, did mine last summer. the timing belt is fairly easy as well, you just need to make sure that the timing marks line up for the belt and the injection pump

Much easier to fit the timing belt on the 3.0.
Set the engine at TDC, highlight the timing marks on the pulleys with some Tipex or paint before you remove the head.
You'll need new head bolts and gaskets too.

I can vouch for that, I had loads of help last year when I needed it. Worth doing it yourself

Good on you, it's a lot easier than you think. If you can, take plenty of pictures of how everything goes together and where it all go's, this will help immensely when you start to put it all back together again
