  • Tyre upgrade help!

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying my first ever set of brand new tyres. Up until now i've always replaced the odd one or 2 if needed but now I have the cash to get a new set.

Im hoping to get some BF goodriches or anything similar, I like the look of the white logo/writing on the side.

My current size is 215/80 R15 but i feel the current ones are undersized and I could go a size bigger. I don't really understand the sizing system. Plus i cannot find my current size on the Goodrich website.

I occasionally go offroad, so I am looking at All terrain tyres. Hopefully I'll do a bit more when I get the right tyres. Especially in the snow!

Pics: My current tyres: (My truck is not lifted - totally standard)

The sort of design i'm after:

My old truck, I can't find these tyres in my size anywhere:

Edit: I'm looking at some sites and thinking of possibly getting some cheap new wheels too. Potentially a set of these

    or

How would I convert the size to find out what tyre size would fit?

The wheel itself should have some markings on it, these will then enable you to get an idea of tyres available.
    Something like a 31x10.50x15 imperial or 265/70/15 metric ?

Hopefully an adult will be along shortly to confirm?

The sizes Shokenore posted will both fit the standard surf. 31x10.5x15 are a little bit bigger than the265/70x15 tyres so should be the ones to look for.

Your wheels are not standard so you need to have a look on the back of them to get the size and offset. Standard surf wheels are 15" x 7" with \ small offset that I can't remember right now - have a search and you'll find it.

Try this place if you want a wheel and tyre combo his prices seem very competitive.

Best other tyre places I've found are camskill and devon 4x4.

31 x 10.5 will fit standard surf wheels. I had Bf Goodrich A/T on my old 2nd Gen and highly recommend them.

Mmm I would like a set of those for my 3rd gen in 16" black.
Cheaper than getting the old wheels refinished too.

i could potentially get bigger wheels. going from my current 15 to a 16 as there seems to me more options for 16" wheels. What sizes will fit my arches on a 16" wheel?

So I went and bought the 16x7 wheels with 0 offset. My old tyres are 215/80 R15 so could I essentially just upsize to 215/80 R16? Will they fit the arches?

Sorry for the noob questions. It's my first time with all of this!

Pic: my new wheels. Not bad for £135 and free postage!

265/70 x 16 is pretty close to stock 31" tyres

                265/75 x 16 may be nearer to a 32" and rub a bit.

Going for some grabbers or BFs hopefully.
Will definitely post pics when fitted.

Will 265 be too much for a 7" wheel? Mine are currently 215 on a 7".

It's been a long time since I ran standard tyres, but I'm pretty sure standard 2nd gen surf tyres are 265/70 x 15, but some came with a 31x10.5x15 'upgrade'

So yes 265mm wide tyres will be normal for a surf. (I think some early 'narrow body' surfs ran smaller wheels but not sure)

Why did you buy new wheels ? - You only needed to check the size and offset of your original ones.

I think he got new rims because he has gone to 16" for more tyre choice?
Could of just stuck some 31s on the 15s though and saved a couple of quid..

Yep but he was looking for 16" skinny tyres that are a couple of inches narrower than the standard surf wheels. 31.10.5x15 tyres are abundant and cheap.
