  • DIY paint job opinions please

My surf has the dreaded laquer peel all over the roof and bonnet,
So as a total respray will cost double what my truck actually cost I was thinking of the old fashioned military paint job using a brush/roller.
My quandary is should I go with a satin black or a NATO green?
Opinions are very welcome as I think both will look quite cool.

did my old Nissan S14 with Nato green and a roller:

turned out well, cost about £50.

got the paint from anchor supplies

What about a plastic wrap? Not sure what they cost though.

Your S14 looks the nuts, I thought about a wrap but it was over a grand and if I scratched it I wouldn't be able to just get the roller out and touch up...I have pretty much decided to go down the DIY paint job but am wavering on colour.. I was thinking if I go satin black I could also do all the chrome type stuff and make it stealth like😜😜😜😃

Pics and colour opinions are welcome as it will be a while before I attempt it.

The only pain to satin is it's a bugger to clean....

                    I was torn between:

                    Satin Black
                    NATO Green,
                    Red oxide
                    Batteship grey

I chose Nato Green because it stays looking clean and goes on without looking patchy.

the satin black looks filthy fast and can go patchy, also costs more to buy, red oxide could look good or shit depending on the brand and battle ship grey is ridiculously hard to find at the right money.

NATO green with all the badges re-applied using a stencil and white paint is where its at then use satin black for any chrome bits and wheel/accents

That plastidip looks cool anyone used it?
I'm not worried about it looking filthy as I don't often wash the old boy incase the dirt is holding components in place😉 I just thought it would look quite cool, I avoided Matt black as I know that's a real pain in showing up every mark and also tends to leave patches after rain, but I'm liking the NATO green and satin black accent idea....too many choices though 😬😬😬

to keep it looking sweet after a wash I would wipe down with a WD40 soaked rag, it would make the rain bead like it was waxed, but not effect the satin finish and make it shiny like wax would
