Coolant expansion tank removal

Folks,

How do you remove the coolant expansion tank from a Gen 3 for a thorough cleaning ?

Do you have to remove the battery or does it just pull out.

It pulls "up" - but its easier with the battery out.

I filled mine with clean gravel and hot fairy liquid water and shook it lots. It came out like new.

I had been giving it a bit of a pull but not too hard as I wasn't sure if it was correct.
