Still don't understand why " Council ". It's always been used to describe the difference between the two 3rd gen transmissions. Where did the word originate from, in terms of this particular technical reference ? Is it a word that appears anywhere in Toyota manuals ?

Council refers to council houses.

People that live in council houses are poor.

Poor people are perfectly dreadful.

Not having a centre diff is absolutely ghastly.

Hence, not having a centre diff is Council.

Council houses belong to the council, not the people in them. The people in some of them may well be rich, but not because they don't work,but because they never bought into the idea that owning a house was just the best. They can afford luxury cars because their disposable income is not being spent on cement and plaster.
