  • New owner - total novice Surf owner

    Hi all,

I've just bought my first Surf 1994 3.0 auto picked it up yesterday and am totally nuts about her already!

BUT A few issues already.. pulls left and almighty creak when on full lock.

Having used the "search" button on here I get the idea that the creak could be the steering stops...? So just get some grease on them (will Vaseline do it?)

and pulling left is a symptom of sticking near side caliper...

My problem is... well I'm a girl and although I kind-of know what this all means I need pictures to help me a bit (have had an old Series 2a Landy previously and was able to do work on that myself so not totally incapable!)

Have found the lovely photo of where to put the grease on the steering stops but don't know where to start with the caliper.

Any help much appreciated and if anyone lives on the Somerset/ Wiltshire boarder would be nice to get to know other Surf owners and perhaps have a day green lane-ing or up on Salisbury Plain sometime?

    Hi Kezz,
    Welcome to the forum.
Your post seems to have gone un-noticed by the usual helpful members of the forum.
I can't help with any specific Gen 2 info as I have never had one. If the front N/S/F brake is siezed, check by jacking up the front and trying to spin the wheel. If it is siezed, the only cure is to remove the caliper and check the pistons for corrosion.
Make sure that you use safe jacking and securing procedures - if it falls off the jack you are going to be in serious difficulty.
A manual would help show you what to do.
    Cheers,
    Mark

Welcome mate from one newbie to another

Start with getting a simple wheel alignment with regards to the pulling to the left

Hi Kezz, welcome to the forum, also from one newbie to the next.

As for your problem, I don't think there's many on here that would call that a problem!!

        Cheers, Beam

You're already off to a better start than most guys here. Jack the vehicle up, use proper stands to support and check both sides for pad wear. If one side or inner or outer on the same side is worn more than the other then it's time for a caliper rekit and maybe new rotors.

            hello & welcome Kezz.

You will feel at home here, lots of girls on the forum

            Also check both front calipers,

Pulling to left, possible o/s caliper not efficient.

Use the search ( top of the page ) type in caliper.
