Thanks Tweak. Just exactly what are Spam bots, and what is their purpose? are they harmful, and is there any way that the forum can block them from registering?

depends on how much back yard made **** and fake handbags/shoes you want
most forum software deal with most automated ones, untill they find a hack for the forum software. tho i've seen loads of manual accounts ie someone actually making an account themselves. they are a bit harder to stop but there auto generated names are easy to spot.

Spam bots are a form of spam that register themselves on forums using clues to fill in the relevant fields (email etc). They are controlled on some forums by using some simple mathematical questions in the registration form that can only be filled by humans (or very well trained chimps!). There are bot stopping systems such as captchars etc. Maybe the addition/subtraction thing could be tried on here? As for being harmful, they won't be half as harmful as some of the genuine members on here!
