You might want to consider a separate ATF cooler.

When I get the recon'ed steering box fitted I've also got a new set of all the filters and oil change planned.
Its going to have a full health check and service to make sure everythings checked, changed and topped up
I believe in looking after my motors and servicing regularily with good products.
I hadnt considered an ATF cooler... when the oil temp light come on in the dash, does that refer to the engine or transmission oil?
I've got an oil cooler ready to fit so can plumb it to either depending on which is in need.

Thats very true, so much shrapnel ends up in the oil pan etc... I've got a magnetic sump plug to fit, but will also clean out any current metal fragments that might be in there... you only gotta get a small piece in the gearing and that'll be ££££ to fix!
Thank you all for your advice and comments

Yes, the warning light is for the trans. The auto box is basically the same as an LS400 box. this may help ( Don't know if the part number for the strainer is the same, though. Ask Vince. ).

I've put my truck in 2day for a recon'ed steering box and replacement front diff. After that it shouldnt need any major jobs done.
If anyone needs work done, the guy I use near me is superb and for what he does, doesnt charge a lot and if anything tries to save you money also!

Its to be expected, but I want to have a cooling solution.
It gets much hotter when towing on A roads and constantly shifting up and downСви можемо

Once thats replaced and the fluid level stays full it may cure the problem. I'll hold off fitting the ATF oil cooler until I see that warning light again post-new box
How are the steering box leaking and the ATF temperature related?
Cheers
