Was just wondering if perhaps this might be easier?

Drill a 32mm hole on the top of the headlight housing between the grille fixing bracket and the headlamp mounting bracket, sort of in line with the H4 stamping.

Drill into the headlamp reflector to suit the T10 socket.

Use the 32mm blind grommet to keep it all water tight and looking tidy.

Might save all the grief of splitting the lens from the shell?

The reflector is a seperate unit from the light housing, with approximately 15mm gap. It's also some sort of cast aluminium material, as the beam aim adjusters are part of the casting.
I would prefer to use the original sidelight type bulb as those LED replacements have a blue/purple tint from a distance.

The glass seperates from the housing quite easy using a heat gun.

Fair point about the led colour.
There must be an led version that gives a good white light?
It is one of those mods where I have procrastinated for such a long time over fears of cracking the glass that I had forgotten about it.
Heat gun, gloves and safety glasses at the ready......
