need some advise

Good day to all....
got confused while the 4WD is "ON" in L4...can i shift gear from 1st,2nd and 3rd while I'm using it or should stick to 1st gear only? Need some advise or information.

I do when I'm off roading. I only select 1 when doing a hill descent. A more knowledgeable person may be along soon with a better answer though
