His mistake was oversteering when the car started to understeer...

He should have put his foot down to bring the rear around and yelled

Christ. You don't want an M3 if you're that bad at driving.

I did a similar sort of thing, understeering off a country lane, in a 1.6 Cavalier when I was 17. It got a bit muddy and had some branches stuck under it. A bloke in a 4x4 stopped and dragged me back out of the field.

I had to clean the car, he had to pay for a new M3.
