Interesting. There's a couple of 2.7 engines with the multimode 4WD system on there. Never seen that combo in the UK. Best of both worlds for $4000.

Currently that's £2600. How much is there to add to that once it's in the UK?

The government will probably sting you with a £1500 bill no doubt.

Things like this always seem risky to me, handing money to a company you don't know for a truck you haven't even seen.

If that's right, it's not so cheap anymore - and probably more than you could get one already in the UK for.

There's a nice black 2003 USA market one on there for £5600. Shitty seat covers though, makes me wonder what's underneath.

Probably why nobody is importing anymore, cheap enough to buy & ship out but too expensive when it lands at this end.

Anyone fancy a flight to Japan, quite good prices for a return ticket.

Below is years old, but might give some idea of likely costs incurred for final arrival on a road in UK.

              Dear All
I have seen many many posts regarding the costs from winning the bid to the delivery. I have calculated the below for an FTO. I believe these costs are rough but they should give you a really good guide.

Item No. Item Name Estimated Price (Yen) Estimated Price (£)
              1 Initial Purchase Price [a] ¥200,000.00 or £1,000.00
              2 Advan Fees (b) ¥80,000.00 or £400.00
              3 FOB Japan [c] ¥110,000.00 or £550.00
              4 Shipping Fee [d] ¥100,000.00 or £500.00
5 Extra Transportation Fees [e] ¥20,000.00 or £100.00 (If Appl)
              6 Duty (10%) [f] ¥30,000.00 or £150.00
              7 VAT (17.5%) [g] ¥59,500.00 or £297.50
              8 Shipping Agents Fee [h] ¥34,000.00 or £170.00
              9 Marine Insurance [i] ¥10,000.00 or £50.00
              10 Wire Transfer Fee [j] ¥5,000.00 or £25.00

Total To Arrive In The UK ¥628,500.00 or £3,142.50

              11 Conversion Cost [k] ¥10,000.00 or £50.00
              12 MOT [l] ¥8,000.00 or £40.00
              13 DVLA Registration [m] ¥7,200.00 or £36.00
14 Number Plates [n] ¥4,000.00 or £20.00 (From Pete See General Chat)
              15 Road Tax [o] ¥18,600.00 or £93.00

Total To Make Roadworthy ¥47,800.00 or £239.00 (Approx)

[b]Total Price On The Road ¥676,300.00 or £3,381.50

If the extra transportation costs are not valid then please delete the extra £100.

Regarding the VAT & Duty please see the table below, this table refers to the calculations above.

              Duty (10%) [f] = a+d
              VAT (17.5%) [g] = a+d+i+f

The rate used for these calculations is 200 Yen : 1 £.

Well, if you don't count the 4runners which were sold by the Toyota dealers, every surf in UK has been imported from Japan following this route. It's safe if you choose the right company, and the main ones that you see advertised, such as autorec etc, are reputable.
As for taxation I can't comment coz the system is different here, where we pay 110% import duty, plus numerous other taxes. Hence you will pay £7000 or £8000 for a newly imported surf. I don't think you will pay £1500 on a £2600 car: that would make import duty for a vehicle as more than 50% of its value....seems a bit steep for the UK, worth ringing up the tax office and finding up.
I think if you have the cash and are after a mint surf the import route is the best. Most exporters' sites have a system of grading the vehicle, using letters and/or numbers. What you see on the site is usually what you get.

£1500 was a bit of a silly figure but knowing this government I wouldn't put it past them.

I would just feel uneasy handing over money for something that is at the other side of the world.
I guess I just don't trust anyone enough to do that sort of a deal, rather it was here in the flesh so I could kick the tyres a few time & suck air through my teeth & maybe shake my head a bit before I hand over the cash.

                      Doh... so you have!

OK, I've only seen one in the uk.

So, that one which works out at £2600 at the dock could be less than £3k OTR then? Hmm.... seems reasonable.

You'd have to really want that £1000 car to pay 3 x it's worth.
