New Surf!

I'm not even going to attempt to explain how I ended up with another Surf after only just selling one (basically the Isofix woes have been overcome), but I did. Got this, an SSRX from my mate who happened to be selling up, by chance. It's an auto this time, with the multi-mode function and a tow-bar. So an upgrade from my blue one, I suppose. The bodywork's great although the bonnet has some scarring, probably from bird cack. I like the colour, too, but my wife says it's "Gay". Reckon she doesn't mean "Happy" either.

Your wife is wrong, that's the "right" colour for a 3rd gen. Its the baby blue that's gay.
Nosey perhaps, but was it more or less than the one you just flogged ?
It looks nice, even the wheels look almost as good as mine, and mine were newly powder coated fairly recently.

You'll be putting in a new aerial mast after fitting the dog guard will you ?
How did you overcome your isofix woes. Did you get the kids adopted, or simply turn them loose in a forest somewhere ?

LOL. Wife will use the Golf (has the IsoFix). I'll use the Surf as my daily runner until we get another baby seat that will be permanently in the Surf, secured by the seatbelts. Then the Golf will be my daily runner again.

Went to MotherCare today and saw a very good baby seat which will be as safe as IsoFix (as long as we fit it properly, that is). Glad I didn't sell the dog-guard too, now.

Hi Cabbage. Yeah, got rid of the blue one in the end. Had to let her go for £3250 in the end. Think I had it up for just a touch too much at £4K. Flash your lights if you see me about (but don't expect a flash back if the wife's driving; she'll wonder why you're flashing and if she does cotton on that it's another Surf, she probably won't flash back as she thinks that's all a bit sad. Women! They just don't get the Surf thing.)

Mileage is about 124K, so not the lowest. Interior's very good apart from two small holes (fag burns, I think) in the driver's seat. But the carpets are very clean, not faded or discoloured, and so is the rest of the upholstery generally. And everything works. I'll get some more photos up when I can, including the wheels which I think are its best feature. Need to get that aerial sorted, though.

Do you have any pics of your truck so I can see what it loks like with black wheels. I'd like to get some winter tyres when the time comes again and might have them put on black steel rims.

Cheers Hilly. Yeah, I like the spare underneath. Keeps everything tidy. Horses for courses, though, I suppose. A tyre on the back does make the truck look like a proper 4 x 4.

We used to have a Graco "travel system" that had a car seat base secured by the seat belts and then the actual seat part would clip in and out without touching the seat belts again. As far as I was aware the plastic of seat belt clip wasn't allowed to come in contact with the base of the seat as it could cause it to fail in an accident apparently. Used to fit the surf ok. The car seat was also able to be secured with the seat belt without the base as well.

Some of the shops were pretty crap with the seat fitting as they would just check the list of current cars that the seat would fit and not actually try fitting in the car. A car seat made in 2008 wouldn't fit any per 2008 models of cars according to them.

We got our 2nd seat from Gibbs in Inverurie, they seamed pretty genuine, explained the differences/issues and showed us fitting the seat in my surf.

Thanks Cabbage. I'll check them out. Never knew baby seats could be so confusing. The one we're looking at is a base secured by the seatbelt and the seat clips in on top. Once it's secured it's solid. Originally we just wanted another Isofix base so we'd have one in each car with a seat that could be swapped from car to car. Having seen what's available that can be secured with seatbelts, I'm happy that a seatbelt one is just as secure.

EDIT:Wife's just said they've closed down. Ah well, Mothercare at Kittybrewster were very helpful yesterday. They seem to know their stuff. Thanks for the info.
