Looks to me like the backing plate for the pads if it's steel

Or the pad itself has separated from the backing ?

the brakes are still working fine no pulling no extra travel but im gonna change the pads at the weekend to be sure.
            It measures
            52mm L
            20mm H
            4mm W
            Its steel.

Looks like the metal backing for a brake pad, but not a surf one. It doesn't have the "shoulders" and the circle of rust in the middle suggests a single piston, not the two on each side of a surf calliper.

Could it have come from a different vehicle, or been thrown/kicked onto your driveway from the street?

Hard to tell from your pic without something to reference against but I think it's off the rear brake drum.

Is the round bit in the middle a bump? It fits into a corresponding recess on the outside of the drum.

Take the rear wheel(s) off you should find a matching dirt/rust outline and the dent.

They're a balance weight from the factory, I've seen them in various sizes.

I think that is a balance weight of one of the propshafts - if it is approx 40mm x 15mm.
I found one under my wifes Gen 3 last year.
                    Cheers,
                    Mark
