airbox probe

last week serviced my truck and noticed a hole on the air filter canister couldnt understand what it was for but then discovered a probe tucked into some wiring put it back in the hole and my truck seems a lot smoother through the gears .....anyone no why said probe left out of filter housing ?????

more than likey taken out when the filter was changed or the air box removed and whoever just forgot to put it back.
