I have to press the red button to put it in gear

I had to tow a trailer the other day, hooked up the trailer, plugged it in and from then on I have to press the red button to put in drive.

Any idea why that might be?

check your brake lights are working.

I believe I recall that if the fuse has blown it won't let you take it out of park when you put you foot on the brake pedal.

I drove it back from scotland to london without the slightest whimper of a problem other than having the press the red button.

Since it coincided with plugging a trailer in, i though perhaps an electrical problem?

I will check the brake lights / fuse

Check fuse by driver side kick panel. Also check the bulbs.

I hope bushwacker was joking, my heart skipped a beat when i read that

I'll have a look at the fuses tomorrow. I literally drive 1500 miles with it in this condition and I didn't notice anyone flashing at me or crashing into the back of me...

I had the same problem on a Patrol after plugging someone elses trailer socket in. It was the fuse. I drove about for a week before I realised what was wrong. DOH!
