  • Just bought a Supra

Decided to go for something different for a change while I'm over here. I wanted something to cruise in for some longer drives. 4x4's can be a bit juicy. ~(that's not to say that this won't be but still... )

1988 Aero, 3.0 Turbo with 87000km on the clock (about 55000 miles). Mint condition and about half the price of a Prado with 250,000km+ on the clock. Attached photo:

Also, nice 3rd gen for sale on Ebay:

I thought about you as I posted this I Remember you saying about your Supras. I was looking at mk4's but I drove one the other day that was laughable. This mk3 was for sale and have really taken to it.
It has all electric mirrors, seats which all work. Digital dash, which I'm indifferent about though. It's the 7M-GTE engine.

What engine is in your old mk3? Is it the 1JZ-GTE? I think this because it says twin turbo on the grille.. PS Looks sweet.

        Attached another pic

PS. your second link isn't working, wants log in credentials.

3.0 manual (was an auto but converted when rebuilt the engine)
fully decatted with straight through system .
                  split rims
                  induction kit
had it rolling roaded at 320bhp at the wheels

                    Nice!
I'm loving it just now. Temp is a nice low 20s, it's 11:30pm and about to cruise home after an evening out in the city. Think I'll redo the exhaust as it's got a large unnecessary system (jap style back box) and it needs the factory 25 year old speakers and wiring removed and uprated like I did to my surf. Need to have tunes

Didn't realise so many HiluxSurf members like their old Supras. I don't know how I feel about the digital dash though feel like I'm driving a delorean

My black aero was actually a 1G-GTE, they don't look like much on paper but as they rev to 8k (well mine did) they use a much shorter final drive.

Mine had blitz turbos, mines eco, Greddy front mount intercooler and HKS exhaust, as well as having the head fully flowed, all internals balanced so dispite being the 2.0 it still shifted It handled really nicely with the lighter engine at the front too.

I highly recommend front and rear strut braces in an aerotop too...

I also love the Digi-dash, they are quite sought after!

I'm trying to find some pictures I have somewhere of a rolling road day I organised for the mkiiisupraowners forum .
Had it at a company in Kidderminster called DRM motorsport and had a good turnout.

Didn't all the Supras come with the digi dash or was this an added option? I noticed on the way home tonight, the digi dash has a MPH display too. Could I switch the display from KMH to MPH using a menu button or something?
I think I have a front strut brace, I'll have to go and have another look tomorrow. I don't have a rear.. I'm not sure if fitting the rear would prevent me stowing the roof away in the boot. There's a special set of mounts where the roof clips into.
The suspension is firm but not unnecessarily stiff. I don't know what it has but there is very little body roll.

I'll probably never know how she pulls through 3rd, 4th etc unless I take it to a track. I don't want to take it to a track though as it's a big motor and don't fancy pushing it that hard. I had a little go through 3rd gear last night and we hit 130+kmh really quickly. At that speed I already risk the car being impounded immediately. The police here can catch you for speeding if theyre simply driving opposite you going the other way. They also hide behind bushes, bus stops, signs etc with speed guns.

All the UK MKIIs had digi-dashes with selectable mph/KPH (From memory) The only MKIIIs that had it were Japanese imports, and were none switchable kph only, so Yours will have been converted to mph. (again from memory, I've not talked supra for a few years now!, and its late and I've just finished a 12 hour stint working on the truck!

The rear strut brace I had worked perfectly with the Aero Roof storage on the boot. REALLY stiffened up the back end too, it felt more controlled and less rattly, it also eliminated all interior squeaks from that area.

Actually this Supra is a Japanese import but I'm actually in Australia right now. I really should update my location but have only been here a few days. The speedo is kmh as they use that over here but may as well be apples and oranges.

I'll look into a brace. When I reversed off the drive this morning I heard the rear end flex like the surf does when articulating on 3 wheels.
