  • Best semi modern replacment for a surf?

Still love my Surf and will probably keep it untill it drops dead, but if I was to replace it I really can't think of anything I really like.

Did think of Hyundai Terracan but they have diff problems.
Don't like the later Landcruisers or the Nissan's.

Only thing I can think of is a Hilux double cab D4D with a nice targa top on. At least they still look good. I suppose around a 2005 plate or thereabouts, around £8000 ish.
    Any others to look at.
VW Touareg nice but pricey and complicated
Porsche Cayen cheap but complicated, seen 2004 for less than £6000

Any issues with insurance with the pickups with targa tops.

    All ideas gratefully received.

    Pete.

      Ahh!

Didn't know there was such a beast.
Do they have to be 10 years old before they are imported?
Is there any pictures or specs around?
      ( will have a quick google )

      Cheers.
      Pete.

Sounds good, but who's going to bring them in? It seems no-one is importing 4x4s anymore.

          No.
Imported vehicles that are ten years old or more do not require an SVA/IVA test.
Be aware that any Surf imported that was manufactured after June 2001 will need £400 tax disc!

You could import one yourself and save a few quid....

              Sold this

              For this

If I could have got a newer surf I would have...this was second choice.

              Benefits over surf are:
Double the load space, better brakes, more safety functions, leather, satnav, toys etc
              Not so goods are:
Its chassis is rusting to death. they look top heavy even when lifted, and they aint a two door (added that for vince )
              33x12.50's don't fit very well.
              That's all!

It doesn't have better brakes, they're normal compared to your previous truck's.

                      Lol!

                      Other end Vince.
Both my Surfs were shite in the brake department.

Rather than keep it till it drops dead why not take it off road for a few months and spend 3 grand making it like brand new ? You could get all the bushes / springs / steering gear done, New rad / pipes / injectors / exhaust / batteries / maybe new head / do the steering pump seals etc etc.

End up with an almost new vehicle for half the price.
