  • Quick query re LN105 timing belt breaking

My mate just had his timing belt break on a hilux 2.4 LN105 while driving

Anyone know if these engines suffer valve impact if this happens?

Yup, it's a VERY interferance engine!!

But usually fixable, normally only valves, but check the valve guides too,

Its been know for them to snap the camshaft too, somthings gotta give and make way for the piston lol
Lets just hope Tonys right and just the valves are gone, not a biggie either way as the heads still gotta come off, good luck.

And pics of the damage would be awesome!!!

he had it done by his local garage.....

2 bent valves, one snapped valve.

all down to the bearings in the idler pully.

daft thing was we were discussing the timing belt replacement the week before - he was 10k miles short of replacing, but was gonna have it done at MOT anyway next week, just to be on the safe side!!!!

          ###### typical really.

          Cost him £1200 - gulp.

I'd have considered a new head at that price!
