  • Engine filter kits - worth getting?

I'll be changing the oil in my Surf soon. Is it worth getting a kit with all all the bits 'n' pieces needed or would you recommend getting evrything separately? It's not a cost saving I'm trying to make, I just want to be sure that the filters etc. are good quality.

What do I need? I used to change the oil on my old petrol Mk 2 Golf but obviously this will be a 3 litre diesel so it's not just a sump plug washer, oil and oil filter I need, is it?

EDIT: Just looked at the filter kit more closely - oil filter and fuel filter (plus sump plug washer) is what's needed, by the looks of things.

Quick tip, get a large open top drain tray to catch the old oil in. If you use one of those sealed ones with the two red caps in the top you will have a massive spill as they can't take the amount of oil that comes out!
I didn't and now have the world's most water proof drive.

Ah yes. I learned about the hard way before. Thanks for the advice; totally agree. I had one of those before and ended up with a water-proof drive, too. Looking at this one: http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/?doc=16&cid=833&vid=1433

Diezel Weazel, thanks. It was Milners I was looking at for the filters. I'll get 'em ordered up. Cheers.

Thought I had this next question covered in one of my old posts, but I don't. And a search didn't reveal the answer either so here goes:

5W40 oil is recommended. Would I need Fully or Semi synthetic? (Or is 5W40 oil ALWAYS fully synthetic??)
(KZN185, 1997 gen 3, 3.0 litre Turbo Diesel, by the way)
