  • Loud Grinding/Collapsed Bearing? OSF Wheel

Got a really loud noise coming (what i think is coming) from the OSF wheel

It sounds like grinding/collapsed bearing type of noise.

It still drives, the noise only appears at once its up to around 10mph

Any pointers/usual probs that would point to this noise?

Oh, there wasnt any noise previously, its been parked up for 3 days, and now the noise.

I took the wheel off, the outer cv has got some vertical/horizontal movement in it

    TIA!

    *edit*

    Seen this thread: http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.php?t=67103

    Also, its a Gen2 3.0

Bronze bushes (on my 2nd gen) were more of a rattle than grinding. Your hub will get too hot to touch if the bearing is that bad.

Not just a stone stuck in a caliper is it?

Not a stone, like I said, had the wheel off and spun it. No noise when spinning it.

Its a definite metal/metal noise and there is no signs of anything rubbing together.

I dont know if its box/diff related and the noise is transferring along the shaft.

When the bronze bushes went on mine it was like a screaming hammer drill .... excessive movement in the front drive shafts at the hub end would indicate wheel bearings and bushes though.

I'm suspecting the bronze bushes then.

            Shopping list!

Inner & Outer CV boot (inner needs replaced anyway)
            Front Wheel Bearing Kit
Inner & Outer (replace both?) bronze bushes

Now, where to buy? Roughtrax are £51.60 just for the bronze bushes, whereas Milners are £36 for both.

            Are the Milners ones crap?

Also, Roughtrax have a 54mm hub nut spanner, but isn't it actually a 55mm?

                What about the Milners/Roughtrax conundrum?

I got cv boots from local auto shop- cheaper than milners and roughtrax and good quality. Got bronze bushes from milner-been on for over 18 months and i do about 150 mile a week-no problems. Did buy an outer cv unit from milner but it was about 10-15mm too long and wouldnt fit. Ended up fitting a good 2nd hand one. Anyone else had issues with cv units not fitting?

Universal ones from euro car parts are a perfect fit for the ln130 and cost me £3 each.
well, that was a bad idea!

                      Next question is:

Should I change the wheel bearing just now, or just the bronze bushes?

Swap the lot whilst you are in there and have it in bits.

                            Really?

If thats the case, it'll be Milners that'll get the money, RT are charging £20 extra
