  • Bike Racks

I know there are a few of you on here that are into your mountain bikes, so can anybody reccommend a decent 2 or 3 bike carrier for a 2nd gen? I want something that would preferrably go on the rear, not a roof carrier.

I've seen a load on ebay but I don't want any old cheapie that will drop the bikes onto the m/way as soon as I hit a bump! Theer used to be some links on here but they are old or broken!

Any recommendations will be gratefully received.

    Cheers, Nick

If you have a towball, I'd go for a towball rack. I have one which I have used on the mondeo, but don't go cheap You get what you pay for here.
        Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

This http://www.thule.com/en/GB/Products/...le-Xpress-970# is what I used when we nipped up to Yorkshire last year. Admitedly I only had one bike on it, but it was utterly secure at full motorway speeds. As a bonus it didn't effect the mpg of the mondeo, but all the dirt that normally gets plastered on the back of the car covered the bike so much I had to wash it before going for a ride.

Was pleased to see this thread and drove to Southampton to check out the jeep type bars at the Tow shop place. There is a problem or two...

Once you remove the nuts on the rear spare wheel you are left with bolts that are welded from the back, as you I guess you know, the bars they sell have a welded nut inside the box section. They don't match size wise. You could remove the welded bolts and go from there. Next thing is they are not very big and will only really hold one adult bike.

So, nice idea, but not for me using these ones. I do intend on using the idea by going to a blacksmith and having some bigger ones made that fit as they should... Hope this helps.... Kevin.
                          .... Which was nice.

See down to post 14. These do fit the holes and I've had 2 bikes on it.

Fair enough...I obviously got it wrong and the advise from the shop made it worse.
