if you can get a 2.4 with proof of having a new decent head fitted then it should be ok.If you are going to be towing alot and fitting bigger tyres then the 3.0 is the best option for the extra power

Don't rush into a purchase, some reading material to start with here. http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=34

There are no guarantees just do ya research n as Rich says checkout any potential purchase thoroughly ....
A 2.4 Surf is a good starting place, a 3.0l is better Fun / Joy to own !!
            Good Luck

Hello Sean. If you're looking for a 2nd gen, it's a bit of a risk to buy any vehicle that's more than 18 years old. Just check all the usual stuff. Having owned both 2.4 and 3.0, I'd go for the 3.0 every time. Do your homework, and hold out for a good one. Good luck.
