The interesting point is where he states there's a problem at lower fuel levels.

I'll have a bash at this. I've also bought some inline filters to put before the main filter in the engine bay and I'll scrap that pick up one.

I can't get to the filter in the tank without dropping the whole thing. On the 3rd gen, the pipes coming to and from the tank are metal, so there isn't enough room to manouver the assembly up far enough.

I did manage to lift it far enough to shine a torch in and have a glimpse of the filter and it looks fairly clear, only a few bits on it, not enough to cause a restriction of flow. So I'll leave that little job for another day!
