  • developed a small whistle

    driving along in the beasty and suddenly noticed that as I pulled away I had suddenly developed a small whistling noise as I went up through the gears on the auto box.
    no lack of power?
    box is working spot on?
    any thoughts surfers

    Hey, John. That sounds like you might have some wear in the bearings, or centre spindle on your turbo. If it gets louder, you may want to overhaul, or replace the unit.

      I developed a small whistle once. Cure was to close my legs when parachuting.
      Non intercooled nothing.

        Probably a hose between the turbo and throttle body has come loose and leaking boost pressure.

        Is the whistling sound only audible when accelerating and quiet when coasting?

          only when I going up through the gears, cant hear it at all when driving at a constant speed?

            Mine did the same, and it was that hose, definetly worth a look.

              When up to speed and cruising, the turbo isn't creating boost pressure so there will be no noises.
              When accelerating, the turbo is spooling and forcing air into the intake ducting. Any loose, or small splits in the hoses will produce a whistling/screeching noise.
