      Got it

Ok so i got the spout out. bought a 700mm screw grabber, shoved it down the filler pipe (after checking that there was nothing else that would come off and get stuck) and it came straight out.

The spout had only gone down the first bend.

It was taking so long to fill that the petrol station pumps were timing out after about 10 litres.

      All's well that ends well

Well done, i'd now go and insert it in a member of halfords

i'd definatly go back to them tho and explain the aggro you've had with their product, se if they want to contribute to the fifty quid you had to pay someone to get it out, you never know!!

I think I will, I'm hesitant as i Halfords seem to specifically recruit people with the lowest IQ possible but i will go back and tell them.

I did mention it to my local mechanic and he said it would probably cost about £140 / £280 for him to do it assuming a tank drop would be involved.

The screw grabber was about £10

            That's made my day.

Would you like an invoice for the £350 it cost to get this removed...

LOL, would be nice to see.

On a more practical level, all their products can be reviewed, if you really want to help others put something about it here...

You could ask to speak to the manager, most big companies do not like the idea of bad publicity, perhaps that should be taken into account

On a side not could you not have used your bushcraft skills to make a lasso out of willow bark or similar or trained a dormouse to climb down the pipe ?

This is the pump Simon has, it really does work a treat, bit pricy but it does the job quickly and without bits falling into the tank

i would definatly go back and politly ask to see the manager, if you can produce a invoice to some fictious mechanic to come out and remove it all the better, either way halfords need to know this item prone to loosing it's end and to save them further claims in the future, good luck and i hope you get some cash out of em after all you did spend a deal fo time and trouble because of it,

I did fashion a wire hook from a nearby barbed wire fence when it first happened. I found a twist of excess wire on the fence, snipped if off with my multi tool and used the barbs on the end as a sort of mini grappling hook.

When i first noticed that the spout nozzle was no where it was supposed to be, i looked in and saw it teetering on the edge of the first bend.

Unfortunately the wire was not quite straight and as i fed it in and attempted to hook it, i knocked it down.

I do however have another story of a tyre blowout i had yesterday which actually bent the inner wheel arch inward so that it was touching the wheel which was fixed with an axe from my bushcraft bag on the m25 yesterday

I will post some pictures of that later as i would really like some opinions of what may have caused my tyre to do what it did.
