  • INSURANCE - any recent good deal recommendations?

Have been insured with Footman James for years - now they tell me that they no longer insure Hilux Surfs . [ Anyone else told that or is it just me?]

Anyway, would therefore welcome any recent recommendations for good value ins. quotes.

Surf is a 1996 3.4 litre petrol auto.. SSRG. No modifications.

Ideally I would like to have unrestricted blobs of time in Europe whereas typically there is a 60 day restriction.

Oh, and I need breakdown cover, also time-unrestricted in Europe.

    Advice gratefully received.

I've been with sureterm last 2 years on a 8k limited mileage policy for my 2.4.£200 inc mods. Their cust service leaves something to be desired at times though.

2nd year with APlan, they matched the next best quote I had that was Admiral (mulitcar).

I have used Auto Aid for a few years now for breakdown cover. They have a Eurocover option at their sister site https://www.eurorescue.co.uk/index.htm

They are only £38 for full cover for a year in the UK, not sure what the Euro cover is though

Try Noel Dazely for the insurance, best price I have had. Fully comp and includes green laning cover. My Quote was about a quarter of any other company and it includes business use.

For Full Euro roadside assistance and recovery try ADAC Germany. €80 for full Euro cover and recovery home.

            http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/ad...p/default.aspx

AA/RAC quoted me over £300 for the same cover and only included some countries.

Have used them twice in UK and its the AA that do the recovery for them. All their operators speak good enough English to take down your details and pass onto AA.
            l'm FAME-ous!

Adrian Flux and you get 15% off for being a member on here.

Lifesure are always very competative on Jap Imports too

Admiral, Elepahant and Diamond (all same company) don't do Jap imports.

It is almost like the insurance companies will vary the cost of cover depending on risk(age, postcode, convictions, modifications)
So all the quotations are pointless, unless your are comparing same risk but with different companies.
The only interesting point is the fact that I would imagine that most of the insurance on here is probably invalid as they are probably covering a Hilux and not a Surf.
Unfortunately you will probably only find that fact out if and when you have to make a claim.
I would urge those of you that said when asked "yeah it's a Hilux " as you were bored of telling the insurance call centre that it is an import, that the car is actually covered.
The fact that a major insurer like Admiral do not cover grey imports should ring a few bells.

Are you sure Aviva do insure your grey import Surf and not confused your vehicle with the official import 4 Runner?

Well either I am going down the wrong route via the online form as they have my vehicle on the data base as a 4 Runner, as copied and pasted from the website, or they do not cover imports

Am I being too pedantic? as when I tell them it is an import I am told we do not cover imports.

Two weeks ago Admiral said they do not insure grey imports. I've got mine and the mrs' car on a multi car policy - I thought we could just the Surf - computer said NO!!

Then the girl said we only insure them if they have a UK spec model, so I said it does, the 4 runner - computer said NO!!

I put all the info into a search engine, guess who came back cheapest - I checked Admiral website - all good - phoned them up - we don't do Hiluxsurf Imports -
