Surely the best advice would be not to venture off road on your own ?

Something no-one's mentioned regarding hill descents. Keep your foot over the throttle pedal - if you feel yourself start to slide, accelerate gently, don't brake. If you're sliding, you have no steering, and the number one priority then is getting your steering back.

As Tony says, use 4WD on any surface that *could* be soft or slippery. That way you don't cut the surface up and get the anti's whinging.

Better to plod along already in 4wd than try it in 2wd, get stuck, dig a hole in the surface, then put it in 4wd to get out, or even discover then your 4wd dosn't work, especially if you've never done it before.

It dosn't need to be this stressful, good on him for having a go, everyone has to start somewhere.
Agreed. Some on here just have to have a dig at someone.

People don't like advice on here, they want the answers that match the ones they've already convinced themselves are correct.

Not necessarily; If I am searching for confirmation I would be happy to accept I was wrong if the person that told me had a viable/more logical explanation etc. I just don't accept 'because it is' answers as some people seem to like pretending they know what they are talking about when actually they don't.
